At an event (Farm to Chef) for chefs to educate them on the aspect of catch-to-market of Connecticut shellfish.
These chefs (of Dinners at the Farm) did not participate in the event, but instead cooked us an amazing meal of locally caught lobster, sea scallops, and Blackfish...in addition to locally grown greens, fennel (!!!!), tomatoes, potatoes, and assorted herbs.
They showed up in their truck with a bed full of stainless-steel equipment (if you've ever worked in a kitchen it would be like home, but outdoors and a tiny bit smaller) and the smells rolled over the rest of us all day until lunch.
As a vegetarian, I am becoming very fond of seafood here in Connecticut (I've extended my diet to include seafood now that I've worked alongside the industry for a while). I mean, with all the local and sustainable products available how can I not be? I've never liked seafood in all of my life and here I am, jonesing for another bite of oceany-goodness. These guys only furthered my cravings...
